A fresh group of 390 Nigerian migrants, who had been stranded in the Niger Republic, were repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday. The group, consisting of 387 adult males, two adult females, and one infant boy, arrived at the Nigeria Immigration Training School in Kano at 1:05 a.m.
Hon. Tijjani Ahmed, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), warmly welcomed the returnees and assured them of the Federal Government’s commitment to their reintegration. He emphasized that they would be supported through various empowerment programs to help them rebuild their lives.
This repatriation marks the third batch of Nigerians returning from Niger Republic, following a similar operation in December 2024, which brought home 702 citizens. Between February and December 2023, the Nigerian Government had successfully repatriated 5,219 citizens from Niger, Libya, and other countries.
A team of officials from the NCFRMI, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) was present to receive the returnees. The group was promptly registered and profiled to ensure they can access the necessary reintegration support programs.
