40% Peculiar Allowance: No Strike For Now: JUSUN Calls Off Judiciary Shutdown

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its planned strike scheduled to commence on Monday, November 13th.

This was contained in a communique issued by JUSUN on Saturday, November 11th after a marathon meeting with the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja.

JUSUN was set to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike over the failure of government to implement the N35,000 minimum wage and 40% peculiar allowance for judiciary workers.

However, after extensive deliberations centred on the issues, JUSUN directed its members to call off the strike and be at their duty posts on Monday to continue rendering services.

The communique observed there has been undue delay by government in responding to the demands of judiciary workers especially on the new minimum wage.

JUSUN also noted communication gaps between its national leadership and federal chapters which delayed prompt action on staff welfare issues.

Earlier, the union had issued strike notices to the Chief Justice of the Federation, President of the Court of Appeal and other heads of courts to pressure government into implementing the new wage structure.

With the suspension, court activities across the country will continue unhindered as JUSUN members have been directed to provide quality services to Nigerians.

The union likely suspended the strike to allow further negotiations on meeting its demands for judiciary workers nationwide.
