80 suspected Internet fraudsters nabbed in Edo and Kwara
No fewer than 80 suspected Internet fraudsters were arrested in different locations across Kwara and Edo states by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday.
The suspects, according to a Wednesday statement by the EFCC, were arrested during sting operations by the anti-graft agency.
In Kwara State, the statement noted that following credible intelligence about the activities of the suspects in the Offa area, the EFCC stormed their hideouts and arrested 55 suspects.
The statement added that exhibits such as cars, bikes, laptops and mobile phones among others were recovered from the suspects.
It added that they would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.
“They were arrested in a sting operation in their hideouts following credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in Internet-related offences.
“Items recovered from the suspects include nine exotic cars, two bikes, laptops, smartphones as well as charms.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” the statement noted.
In a similar arrest in Benin City, Edo State, 25 suspects were arrested at different locations during a sting operation.
The statement added that they would also be prosecuted accordingly.
“The suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence on their alleged involvement in Internet-related fraud.
“Items recovered from them include eight exotic cars, laptops and phones. They will be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded,” it stated.
