Dollar video: Ganduje asks court to stop EFCC probe
Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has asked a High Court in Kano to restrain the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from probing him. Ganduje wants an order protecting him from EFCC’s investigation of videos, which showed him allegedly receiving stacks of dollars from a contractor.
The Kano House of Assembly, in response to outrage, constituted a committee to investigate the alleged bribery but yet to submit its report.
Ganduje wants the court to declare that the interrogation of the ex-State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Chairman and ex-Accountant General, in connection to the video, illegal.
The former governor’s suit, filed by the Attorney General in his administration, relied on Sections 1 (1) of the 1999 constitution.
It stated that since the state lawmakers already probed the clips pursuant to its powers under section 128 of the 1999 constitution.
Ganduje wants a declaration that there is a pending case (No: CV/1598/2021 between him) Jaafar Jafaar & Anor, before a FCT High Court in which he is challenging the authenticity of the video.
“The defendant cannot exercise its investigative powers under the sections 6, 7 and 13 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004 (CFCC ACT), until after the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (Coram: Hon. Justice Y. Halilu), has decided the matter before it,” the suit reads.
The video was published by Daily Nigerian in 2018 and after threats of incarceration, the Publisher Jaafar Jaafar and his family fled to the United Kingdom.

Suspension of Bawa as EFCC Boss is a positive step, just like that of Emefele CBN Boss? On Gaduje, no Court can stop investigations by the Police or the EFCC or the ICPC, even if (as in the case in Gaduje) there is a pending Suit on the same subject Been investigated. On Senator Bulkachuka, he has unintentional damaged the good reputation of his wife as a former lecturer and President of the Court of Appeal. The ICPC is not supposed to be prompted to arrest and investigate the Senator.
On PBAT, kudos, so far so good. Pls stop the de.liberate mega monoly of productions and marketing of setting goods in Nigeria. Effectively allow other persons to trade, and allow markets and demands to dictate prices.
The prices of PMS (fuel) can come down. PBAT cannot “suspend” Dangote, but he can stop him from monopolistic control of the Nigerian economy.
On the Law to increase the retirement age of Judges, good one, but it ought to go with improved welfare packages. The the Judiciary, as 3rd Arm, must be independent. PBAT PLS GRANT JUDICIARY HER WELL DESERVED AUTHONOMY.
We await more PUPILIST POLICIES.PLEASE
