Zamfara’s Emir of Gusau Dethrones Monarch Who Headed Tinubu, Shettima’s APC Campaign Directorate

Zamfara State’s Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, has dethroned Magajin Garin Gusau, Alhaji Haliru Magaji, for leading the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu’s campaign directorate in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

In a letter dated June 24, and signed by the secretary of the emirate council, Sambo A. Sambo, the emir said the dethronement took effect from Friday, June 23, 2023.

The letter referenced GUSEC/PALACE/SEC/029/Vol.1, was circulated early hours of Monday. In the three paragraphs letter, no reason was stated for the sack of the traditional ruler.

However, sources familiar with the Gusau Emirate Council said the sack was not unconnected with the role played by the monarch in the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council.

Recall that Tinubu won in Zamfara State but the then governor of the state, Bello Matawalle, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was defeated by Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A source said during the campaign, one of the initiatives of the coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign in Zamfara, Senator Kabiru Marafa was the creation of the Directorate of community-based Institutions headed by Alhaji Haliru Muhammad Magaji, the dethroned monarch.

“Magaji played a prominent role in the “turbaning” of Tinubu as the Wakilin Raya Kasa of Gusau (Agent of National Transformation) during his campaign visit to Gusau. He also led in organising the reception durbar to honour the President and mobilised 245 District Heads across the state.

“The Emir who was known to be a staunch member of PDP was not at ease with the rising profile of both Sen Kabir Marafa and he dethroned Magaji Muhammad Haliru,” the source said.
