Deputy Governor Shaibu Reaffirms Loyalty To Gov Obaseki, Denounces ‘Political Jobbers’ Targeting Boss
Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has rejected claims of involvement in a coup plot aimed at removing Governor Godwin Obaseki from office.
Responding to Governor Obaseki’s assertion of a coup attempt, Shaibu, while addressing his aides, reiterated his loyalty to the governor and denounced the allegations.
Shaibu labeled the coup allegations as unfounded and part of a malicious effort by political opportunists seeking personal gain. He refuted any intention to undermine Governor Obaseki’s leadership, emphasizing his commitment to the principles of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Expressing his steadfast partnership with Governor Obaseki, Shaibu highlighted their combined efforts in delivering promises to the people of Edo State across sectors like education, healthcare, infrastructure, and employment.
As Deputy Governor, Shaibu stressed his role in supporting and complementing the governor’s agenda rather than working against it. He emphasized his advocacy for policies aligned with the administration’s goals and aspirations.
Shaibu vehemently rejected the idea of plotting a coup against a democratically elected government, affirming his dedication to democratic processes and the mandate given to Governor Obaseki and himself by the people of Edo State.
Urging skepticism regarding the allegations, Shaibu called on the media and the public to focus on issues that truly impact the citizens of Edo State, such as education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
In light of the ongoing political turmoil, Shaibu clarified that he did not decline participation in selecting commissioners in Etsako. Contrary to previous allegations, he explained that he was on his way to address a separate political issue when called back to attend to matters in Benin.
Refuting claims of planning to rejoin the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Shaibu’s aides emphasized his commitment to staying with Governor Obaseki, a sentiment he has consistently expressed in public forums.
In response to accusations of creating feuds, Shaibu’s aides highlighted the fictitious nature of such claims and urged those involved to prioritize the development of Edo State above personal interests.
Governor Obaseki, meanwhile, had alleged during a meeting with local leaders that Shaibu was exploring various avenues, including coup plotting, to secure his own governorship ambitions.
