NAPTAN: FGC Ijanikin sex romp saddening

The National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has condemned the alleged sex romp involving six pupils of Federal Government College, Ijanikin, Lagos.

Some boarding pupils reportedly jumped the school fence with their female colleagues and lodged in hotels to have sex.

However, NAPTAN Deputy National President, Adeolu Ogunbanjo, in a telephone chat with The Nation described the incident as ‘saddening and unfortunate’.

He blamed the social media for moral decadence among youths. He noted that social media use should be controlled and regulated.

Ogunbanjo called on the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to ensure there are policies to regulate social media use.

“Unfortunately, social media has contributed to moral decadence among our children and youths. When pupils are given android devices, they use it for something else. Social media use should be regulated or controlled. It has really exposed children to a lot of stuff.

Phone manufacturers should find a way to produce Android phones for school age pupils and block them from visiting certain x-rated sites websites. The NCC should also look into that,” he said.

Ogunbanjo urged the principal to supervise house masters and mistresses regularly, while calling for stricter disciplinary measures to forestall a recurrence.

He also advised parents not leave teachers alone to discipline their wards.

“Parents also have much to do. They should not leave everything in the hands of teachers. They should not spare the children in terms of morals. They should create time for their wards,” he said.

It was learnt that the school has suspended the six pupils allegedly involved in the incident
