Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has pledged to prosecute APC leader, Olumide Awolumate if implicated in the assault on the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adebunmi Orisadahunsi.

Orisadahunsi was hospitalised after she suffered swollen head and body injuries following an attack by Awolumate at Iye Akoko, Arigidi, Akoko Northwest local government area during the distribution of palliatives in the locality.

Governor Akeredolu who spoke through his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, said assault on a government official on duty was not only criminal but an affront to his administration.

He said: “Investigation into the incident has begun, and the full weight of the law will be applied to the assailant if found guilty.

“We remind the public, that the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law prohibits all forms of violence against persons and provides maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishments to offenders.”

Also, the state All Progressives Congress called for immediate suspension of Awolumate from the party.

It said the level of indiscipline exhibited by the embattled official was unbelievable.

This was contained in a statement issued after an emergency meeting of the party and signed by its spokesman, Alex Kalejaye.

Kalejaye said: “We are still wondering what could have pushed him into exhibiting that degree of primitive affront on a highly placed party chieftain and serving Commissioner.

“We call for the immediate suspension of the chairman by the ward leaders, and assure them that further disciplinary actions will follow later.”

Ondo APC warned members of its executive to always embrace civility and self-discipline at all times.
