
Kogi Election Eve: Police Issues Stern Warning to Trouble-Makers, Vows to Unleash Full Force
As the Kogi State governorship election looms just a day away, the Nigerian Police Force has sent a clear message to any individuals or groups contemplating mischief to disrupt the integrity of the Saturday election. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ahmed Habu Sani, overseeing security arrangements for the Kogi governorship election, delivered a stern warning in Lokoja during a press briefing on the police’s readiness for the exercise.
“Any person that will want to test our capacity, ability in the smooth conduct of the election will know the various powers that we have,” he declared.
The police chief emphasized that the force has deployed sufficient personnel to oversee each of the 3508 polling units and 239 wards across the 21 local government areas of the state. He assured that the Nigeria Police Force, along with other security agencies, is fully prepared in terms of manpower and logistics to ensure a peaceful and successful off-circle election in Kogi state.
DIG Ahmed Habu Sani called on the people of the state to contribute to the peaceful conduct of the election by providing useful information to assist security agencies in carrying out their duties effectively.
“I am calling on the good people of Kogi State to be law-abiding and be supportive of security agencies to discharge their mandate for the peaceful, free fair and acceptable elections in this state.”
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state under tight security. At the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, a significant police presence, including the Counter-Terrorism Unit and sniffer dogs, was observed, emphasizing the commitment to a secure electoral process
