Between politics and ethics
Moral conduct and a positive mindset about everything we do are factors that influence moral sensitivity, principles, core values, and etiquette. Likewise in politics, it is obvious that the top-notch celebrated politicians are fighting about respect for each other. They pay homage, celebrating each other’s achievements, and mourning in the case of adversities which shows that there is life outside politics.
Thoughtlessly, many people engage in heated arguments about these politicians, trying to do anything humanly possible to convince people to have the same political view as theirs. In the process, the arguments become insulting, denigrating, and disrespectful, consequently generating unnecessary crisis .
Thus politics without hatred and bitterness is one of the healthiest ways to play the game. Many of the politicians we are fighting for will usually disappear immediately after elections. Most of them are usually seen meeting and continuing their luxury lives with their families while leaving the poor people to fight and hate each other over nothing.
Besides, there are several campaign strategies to use in convincing people to accept a candidate, especially using facts and figures. They include physical projects, track records, clear competencies, and pedigree. These could go a long way in projecting the image and selling the candidate to the teeming populace.
Unlike before, many religious clerics have now ventured fully into the business of politics. They express contrasting opinions, and thoughts that are far from the true doctrine of religion because of their prejudice; all to convince their followers to vote for particular political candidates. This usually deverts the attention of many on which candidate will be the better option, politically.
Furthermore, democracy as a system is open for everyone to exercise the constitutional franchise, the rights, and freedom to vote and to be voted. It gives everyone the right to make choices devoid of tribal and religious sentiments.
People have distinct thoughts and viewpoints about politics and can hardly be convinced by the mere controversial views of others.
Unfortunately, political thuggery has consumed most of our youth today. Usually, sedative drugs are distributed to some unemployed youth to attack, kill, or maim anyone with a opposing political view. This is indeed unfortunate.
Those attacking great personalities because of political differences on social media should know that these people have families, names, and reputations to protect. Therefore, their actions have disastrous consequences on them, their children, and their great-grandchildren.
The political season is here, many were friends and will continue to be especially when lines are not crossed. let’s not allow the season to ruin our friendships, cordial relationships, and respect for elders, religious clerics, and concerned authorities. Thus, we should vote wisely as every decision we make is going to affect our lives in general and the future generations.
Above all, the era of political manipulation has passed and a common man from a remote village can easily identify the requisites and essential qualities of a particular political office contestant, irrespective of religion, tribe, or political party.
