NSCDC admits officers involved in disappearance of radio tower, launch manhunt for culprits
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has acknowledged the involvement of two of its personnel in the disappearance of a radio tower belonging to Media Trust Group.
The Corps has vowed to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
NSCDC’s spokesperson, Nasir D. Abdullahi, issued a statement on Wednesday admitting the involvement of the two officers.
Abdullahi stated that the officers were approached by a scrap metal dealer, Bello Mustapha, who presented forged documents to request security cover for the transportation of items from Maikujeri Rafi LGA in Niger State to Lagos.
He noted that the tower was not confiscated by the Niger State Command.
“For the record, the tower in question was at a particular location in Maikujeri in Rafi Local Government when a scavenger by the name of Bello Mustapha approached two of our personnel, one attached to Niger State Command and the other serving with Kaduna State, with forged documents to give him cover to evacuate the items,” Abdullahi said.
According to him, “the NSCDC, as a responsible organisation established by an act saddled with the responsibility of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, will not, under any reason, engage in such scandalous affairs, whatever the reasons.”
He also stated that the corps has launched a manhunt for Mustapha and the two NSCDC officers involved in order to bring them in for a thorough investigation into the command’s involvement.
“It is also important to note that the national headquarters of the corps under the dynamic leadership of the Commandant General of NSDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi is on top of the matter and has directed for discrete investigation to bring those involved to book,” he added.
The Niger State Command of the NSCDC, however, appealed to the public and the media to maintain their trust in the corps under the leadership of Commandant Elijah Etim Willie, Abdullahi stated, assuring them that the matter would not for any reason be swept under the carpet.
“The command is doing everything within the ambit of the act establishing the NSCDC in making sure that the law will take its full course on the matter.”
