Drama As Aba Church Cancels Wedding Over Bride’s Pregnancy

There was drama at an Assemblies of God Church in Aba, Abia State recently when the presiding pastor declined to wed a couple after the bride-to-be failed a mandatory pregnancy test.

According to reports, the pastor called off the wedding between Mr Isreal and Miss Rose scheduled after the Sunday service on November 26th, leaving their families and guests confused.

The church’s doctrine forbids joining pregnant brides in holy matrimony. Despite pleas from both families, the pastor stuck to the rules and suspended the now unmarried couple from church activities.

Assemblies of God members say such testing and cancellations are not new. The couple ended up getting married in a nearby church that hosted their reception too.

The strict enforcement generated debate as some observers argued the pastor should have wedded them but issue disciplinary action afterwards given expenses already made.

Such incidents spotlight interesting religious doctrines guiding conduct of marriage rites in Nigerian churches.
