Sustain Buhari’s agrarian revolution, Okechukwu tells Tinubu
As Nigeria’s immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari clocked 81 years, his loyalists, under the aegis of Buharists, have extolled his pro-people agenda and called on President Bola Tinubu to sustain his agrarian revolution.
In a statement, yesterday, a notable Buharist and former Director General (DG) of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, explained that the agrarian revolution entails putting in place mechanism to ensure mechanised agriculture nationwide and the Anchor Borrowers Programme ABP).
“We are happy that Tinubu promised to continue with our icon’s initiatives, because that is a befitting way to honour the image of this great Nigerian, who loves the poor and cares for the nation,” he stated.
Okechukwu recalled how Buhari raised a marshal plan to confront the challenge of food security in the country, regretting that insurgency slowed down the drive to make Nigeria food sufficient.
The statement added: “Billions of naira in bail-out funds were granted to state governments, Social Investment Programme (SIP), reduction of infrastructural deficit and the famous Buhari’s unprecedented agrarian revolution to enhance Nigerians’ prosperity.
“We, the Buharists, make bold to state that because of his passion for food security, he invested more than any other Federal Government in agriculture post-1970. Regrettably, we lament the truism that palpable insecurity diminished his quest for food security as his credo was, we must produce what we eat.”
MEANWHILE, former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to Buhari on his 81st birthday. In a statement, yesterday, the former Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) commended Buhari’s leadership, acknowledging that he did his best to improve the lives of Nigerians during his tenure President.
“As President, Buhari was dedicated to the welfare of the Nigerian people and worked tirelessly to advance the nation’s development. He became President at a difficult time in our nation’s history, at a time insecurity was rife with bombings across the country, especially in Abuja, the nation’s capital. However, through his leadership, we witnessed a great turnaround, as the insurgency was largely contained, giving Nigerians a respite.
