Christmas bonus: Rivers organised labour hails Fubara
The organised labour in Rivers state has warned detractors of the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following the N100,000 Christmas bonus approved for civil servants.
The workers said with such rare magnanimity from the governor, they would continue to show unalloyed support to his administration.
The governor in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joe Johnson, called for immediate implementation of the approval to enable the civil servants to have a wonderful yuletide.
The statement said: “Rivers state governor, Siminalayi Fubara has approved the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) as a Christmas bonus for the State’s civil servants on the State payroll
“Gov. Fubara gave the approval on Tuesday for immediate implementation to enable the civil servants to have a wonderful yuletide celebration.”
Commending the governor for the gesture, the state chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in a joint statement signed by their state chairpersons, Alex Agwangwor and Sir. Ikechukwu Onyefuru called on civil servants to strongly support the administration of Fubara.
They said the governor by the gesture had broken the record set by the administration of former Governor Peter Odili, who during his tenure gave civil servants a N20,000 Christmas bonus.
They said: “It is important to mention that no other administration gave Christmas bonus to civil servants after Dr Peter Odili until now.
“We call on workers in Rivers State to continue to pray for peace during this time of political crisis and wish to state that with this kind of gesture, our governor has further proven himself as the workers’ governor.
“We warn all political detractors to desist from distracting His Excellency as any further attack on His Excellency will be treated as an attack on Rivers workers. We reiterate our unalloyed support of workers to the Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led administration.”
