Supreme Court To Decide Kano Governorship Tussle Tomorrow
The Supreme Court will tomorrow deliver judgement on the Kano State governorship election dispute between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) and Nasiru Gawuna Yusuf of the All Progressives Congress ( APC).
This was contained in a notice issued by the apex Court in Abuja to the parties in the suit yesterday.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court led by Justice John Inyang Okoro had in December reserved judgement on the electoral dispute.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had returned Yusuf winner of the March 18, 2023 governorship election, having polled 1,019,602 votes against his opponent’s 890,705 votes.
However, the APC challenged the results of the election at the tribunal, which eventually nullified Yusuf’s victory, after deducting 165,616 votes from the total votes cast in his favour.
Dissatisfied with the judgement, Yusuf approached the Court of Appeal, which also affirmed the judgement of the lower court against him.
Yusuf approached the Supreme Court, which is due to deliver its judgment in the case tomorrow.
