DSS denies arrest of ex-CBN deputy gov, Aisha Ahmad, others

The Department of State Services, DSS, has refuted reports of the arrest of Aisha Ahmad, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

DSS said no past or present CBN official was arrested in the last 48 hours.

Reports of Ahmad’s alleged arrest went viral on the Internet on Thursday.

Viral reports, not from lawblogng  claimed that the DSS arrested Ahmad over an alleged fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris, Titan Trust, and Union banks.

The former CBN deputy governor was also linked to a $300 million deal for the complete acquisition of Union Bank which was raised by Titan Bank.

CBN and some of its former senior officials have been under scrutiny since the apex bank’s former governor, Godwin Emefiele, was suspended and subsequently arrested.

He is being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged financial impropriety during his tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, DSS posted on X, “The DSS did not, in the last 48 hours, arrest any former or present official of the CBN.”
