Lawyer Garba Armi Regains Freedom After Ransom Payment, 48 Hours After Abduction
Legal practitioner and senior member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Keffi Branch, Garba Armi, has been released by his abductors after spending about 48 hours in captivity.
Mr. Armi was kidnapped by unknown gunmen who attacked his residence at Angwa Kare, Keffi on Monday, January 29th. However, responding to Mr. Armi’s release, NBA Keffi Branch Chairman, Nuhu J. Egya Esq., confirmed his freedom in a statement.
“We received the news on Friday evening that he had been let go after the payment of an unspecified ransom amount,” Egya stated, thanking God for the development.
Details of the amount paid for Mr. Armi’s release have not been disclosed. Reports indicate that the kidnappers made contact after the abduction to demand an undisclosed sum before letting him go.
The release will come as a huge relief for the local NBA branch and Nigeria’s legal community. But it highlights, once again, the rising insecurity as kidnappings for ransom have become rampant, even afflicting lawyers and other professionals.
While welcoming Mr. Armi’s freedom, the Keffi NBA chairman called for improved security to tackle violent crimes, urging government intervention to safeguard lives and properties.
