BREAKING: Supreme Court dismisses Abacha’s family’s appeal over forfeiture

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed an appeal brought before it by the family of former Nigerian leader, late General Sani Abacha, seeking to stop moves to re-open the criminal forfeiture proceedings against the ex-Head of State and some of his relatives.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the case is related to Abacha’s family’s alleged complicity in the looting of Nigeria’s treasury during the military officer’s administration from 1993 until his death in 1998.

In a unanimous verdict read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court held that concurrent findings of facts are unassailable and consequently dismissed the appeal.

It also ordered parties to bear the cost of the legal action.
