Gone By The Gun Onigegewura’s Requiem For Omobolanle Raheem
By Olanrewaju Akinsola [Onigegewura]
Omobolanle is gone
She’s gone by the gun
And our hearts are torn
For her many a dream unborn
Is this a dream or a nightmare?
Has Omobolanle truly gone forever?
Is dreamland now our rendezvous?
And your beautiful life a memory?
Strange sights our eyes have seen
Our Omobolanle was taken away from us
Taken away with her twins unborn
Three souls snatched away on Christmas day
Strange sights our eyes have seen
Our road is now tarred crimson
Painted and stained by blood of the innocents
Whose only offence is to be harmless
Darkness cloaked us with fear
Our guard has become our assassin
The Law-keeper has turned to the Law breaker
And the Law has become the victim
To whom then shall we turn?
When our protector haunts us
From where shall we seek refuge?
When our home plagues us
Pray, I ask you, Mr Force?
What do you do with your kills?
Do you wear your gory trophies
As the epaulettes of your rank?
Do you gloat when you pull the trigger?
And delight at the sight of the innocent in pain?
Do you rejoice as the bereaved grieve?
And smile as they mourn their dead
Pray, I ask you, Mr. Force?
When is this carnage going to be over?
When shall we be secured in our own land?
And you will save and not maim us
How long shall we continue to weep?
Yet, it is not for Omobolanle we cry
Her race is done and won
Bolanle’s soul is finally at rest
Our tears are for ourselves
The dead weeps for the dead
We weep for Law, we mourn for Justice
We weep for every innocent soul taken away by Force
Omobolanle, rest in peace
Justice will be served, Law shall take its course
Your death shall not be in vain
We shall forever cherish your memory
