Rivers CP Summons Etche LGA Chairman & Chief Of Staff For Vandalizing Property At Gov Fubara’s Thanksgiving Service

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State has summoned the Chairman of Etche Local Government Area (LGA), Chief Hon. (Dr.) Obinna Elvis Anyanwu (JP) DSSRS, for questioning on Wednesday, February 21st over undisclosed matters.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman dated February 20th, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okehi-Etche Division, CSP Benjamin N. Ugwuegbulam, stated that Chief Anyanwu has been requested to meet with the Commissioner at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Port Harcourt by 11AM.

Chief Anyanwu was asked to appear alongside his Chief of Staff, Mr. Promise Nwankwo Echi. The reason for the invitation was not stated. An Etche LGA spokesman said the Chairman will honor the invitation.

But there have been calls for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the violent disruption of a thanksgiving service in local government areas in Rivers State on Sunday.

The service was held to celebrate Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s victory at the Supreme Court.

However, video footage showed a chief of staff Mr. Promise Nwankwo Echi and suspected cultists destroying property and equipment while some policemen looked on without intervening.

The Leader of the Simplified Movement, Ambrose Gozi, condemned the brazen attack and called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure the perpetrators face justice. A similar incident occurred in Ahoada West LGA in early February.

Gozi said this demonstrated where the trouble was coming from.
