Landlord Docked For Disconnecting Electricity, Water From Tenant

A 64-year-old landlord, Samuel Famakinwa, on Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly disconnecting electricity and water supply from a tenant’s apartment.

The defendant is facing a three-count charge bordering on breach of peace and unlawful disconnection.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in October 2023, at No. 9, Asungbolu St., Igando, Lagos.

He said that the defendant unlawfully disconnected electricity cable and pipes supplying water to the apartment of the complainant, Mr Bolaji Eniola, who was a tenant to the defendant.

The prosecutor said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace.

He said that the offences violated Sections 168 (1) (d), 247 and 340 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate K. A. Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Ariyo ordered that the surety should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and then adjourned the case until March 11 for mention.
