Lagos Government Delaying Prosecution Of BRT Female Passenger, Bamise’s Murder Case, CDHR Laments
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), on Tuesday, decried the delay in the prosecution of the alleged murder case of 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola by the Lagos State Government.
Lamenting, CDHR Chairman, Lagos State branch urged the Lagos Government to accelerate the hearing of the alleged murder case for the sake of Justice.
He said: “The case has been in court since March 2022. CDHR has been monitoring the case but it is so sad that up till date, the case has been suffering series of unnecessary adjournments.
“The other four persons; three men and one woman, in the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) bus at the time of Bamise’s brutal murder should be identified, named and brought to justice.
“The Android phone belonging to the late Bamise which she was communicating with her friend and sending vital information to her while inside the BRT bus and sensing danger, should be produced.
“The authorities should confirm to the world that indeed the murder suspect, Ominikoron is still in prison custody.”
SaharaReporters had reported that Lagos State High Court at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) fixed February 15, 2024, for the hearing of the “No Case Submission” filed by the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, Andrew Ominnikoron, alleged killer of Oluwabamise Ayanwola.
The defendant is arraigned for a five-count charge bordering on alleged rape, conspiracy, felony, sexual assault, and murder preferred against him by the Lagos State Government
The prosecution said that the defendant, on Feb. 26, 2022, allegedly had sexual intercourse with Ayanwola without her consent and murdered her at 7 p.m. between Lekki Ajah Expressway and Carter Bridge.
During the arraignment, the prosecution claimed that Ominnikoron colluded with others now at large to rape and murder his 22-year-old passenger, Ayanwola.
The prosecution also claimed that the defendant and those who are still at large unlawfully killed Ayanwola by tossing her from a moving bus between the Lekki-Ajah Motorway and the Carter Bridge.
The prosecution stated that on November 25, 2021, the defendant allegedly raped another person, a 29-year-old lady named Maryjane Odezulu, without her consent at the Ajah Conservation Centre, Lekki Ajah Motorway, Lagos.
He noted that on December 29, 2021, the defendant sexually molested Dr. Victoria Anuke on the Ketu-Oshodi axis in Lagos.
