NBA President Constitutes National Officers’ Election Appeal Committee For 2024 Elections

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, has announced the constitution of the National Officers’ Election Appeal Committee for the upcoming 2024 NBA elections.

The committee’s ormation is subject to ratification by the National Executive Council (NEC).

In a notice issued on April 14, 2024, the NBA President exercised the powers vested in him by Section 14(3)(i) of the NBA Constitution, 2015 (as amended in 2021). The committee’s primary responsibility, as outlined in Section 14(2)(l), is to receive and resolve electoral complaints and disputes arising from the election of National Officers and the election of representatives of the Association in the General Council of the Bar.

The National Officers’ Election Appeal Committee comprises seven members:

President Maikyau expressed his gratitude to the committee members for making themselves available to serve the Bar selflessly in this capacity. He also called upon members of the Bar, especially the aspirants for the various offices, to extend their maximum cooperation to the committee members to ensure a smooth transition.

The constitution of the National Officers’ Election Appeal Committee is a crucial step towards ensuring a fair, transparent, and credible election process for the NBA. The committee’s role in resolving electoral disputes and complaints will contribute to maintaining the integrity of the Association and its leadership.

As the NBA gears up for the 2024 elections, the newly formed committee is expected to play a vital role in upholding the democratic principles and values of the legal profession in Nigeria.
