[FULL LIST] ECNBA Releases List Of Candidates For 2024 NBA General Election, Three Candidates Cleared For NBA President Position, One Disqualified
The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has released the list of candidates vying for various positions in the forthcoming 2024 NBA General Election. The list was announced following the close of nominations and screening of nomination forms submitted by the candidates.
For the position of President, four candidates have been cleared: Afam Josiah Osigwe SAN (Abuja Branch), Tobenna Erojikwe Chigbo (Lagos Branch), and Chukwuka Ikuazom Nwabueze SAN (Lagos Branch). However, Joyce Oduah (Lagos Branch) was disqualified.
Several candidates have been cleared for the positions of First Vice President, Second Vice President, and Third Vice President. Notable among them are Sosapiriye Williams (Port
Harcourt), Gerald Ugochukwu Abonyi (Obollo Afor Branch), Bolatumi Olasunbo Animashaun (Lagos Branch), and Zaniab Garba Aminu (Kaduna Branch). Anyia Sabastine Ubua of (Aguata Branch) was disqualified.
For the position of General Secretary, Abdulwasiu Alfa (Maiduguri Branch) and Mobolaji Ojibara (Ilorin Branch) have been cleared, while Tsav Mohammed Iyorember (Bwari Branch) and Caroline Ladidi Anze-Bishop (Bukuru Branch) were disqualified.
The list also includes candidates for the positions of Assistant General Secretary, Treasurer, Welfare Secretary, Publicity Secretary, and Assistant Publicity Secretary. Some notable candidates who have been cleared include Henry Ehi Barnabas (Bwari Branch), Caroline Obi (Lagos Branch), and Ebiere Emmanuella Ekpese (Sagbama Branch).
In the category of Representative to the General Council of the Bar, candidates from the Eastern, Northern, and Western regions have been cleared, while some have been disqualified. Those cleared include Eric Chigozie Ibe (Garki Branch), Tijjani Magaji (Funtua Branch), and Sulayman Dawud (Gwagwalada Branch).
The ECNBA has informed disqualified candidates of their right to appeal against the decision under Part IX, 2nd Schedule of the NBA Constitution 2015 (As amended in 2021).
The NBA General Election is a significant event that determines the leadership of the association for the next term. The cleared candidates will now proceed to campaign and present their manifestos to the members of the NBA, who will ultimately decide their fate through a democratic voting process.
The ECNBA, chaired by Oluseun Abimbola SAN and with Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim as Secretary, has assured all stakeholders of a free, fair, and credible election process.
