Afam Osigwe, SAN Statement on the Release of Mr. Chibuike Joseph Azoro, Mr. Rolland Ipuole Esq, and Rukayyat Mustafa Esq.

I am glad to learn about the safe release of Mr. Chibuike Joseph Azoro (Secretary, NBA Idemili Branch), Mr. Rolland Ipuole Esq. (Lecturer at the University of Calabar), and Rukayyat Mustafa Esq., who were recently kidnapped in Anambra, Calabar, and Sokoto, respectively.

The past few weeks have been a period of intense anxiety and distress for their families, colleagues, and the broader legal profession. The abduction of these esteemed individuals is a stark reminder of the grave security challenges we face, and it underscores the urgent need for collective action to ensure the safety of all citizens, particularly those in service to justice and education.

I thank God Almighty for granting them a safe release from the den of their abductors. I also commend the law enforcement agencies and all other stakeholders involved in securing their release. Their efforts, dedication, and resilience have been instrumental in bringing about this positive outcome. I also thank the various branches of the Nigerian Bar Association and all well-meaning individuals who lent their voices, resources, and prayers during this challenging time.

While we celebrate the safe return of Mr. Azoro, Mr. Ipuole, and Ms. Mustafa, the government must remain acutely aware of the ongoing security issues that continue to affect many parts of our country and must put in place measures and support systems to protect our citizens from such heinous acts. Efforts must be intensified in combating kidnapping and other forms of insecurity that threaten our peace and development.

As we welcome our colleagues back, I urge everyone to remain vigilant and continue to support one another. Let this moment reinforce our unity and determination to create a safer and more just society for all.
