NANS dissociates self from planned protest against EFCC
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has dissociated itself from the alleged plan by some groups to stage protests against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
the anti-graft agency, on Wednesday, raised the alarm, alleging that a “shadowy group” is currently planning to instigate a protest against the Commission.
According to the agency, the group has been actively campaigning via social media platforms, recruiting impressionable young Nigerians, including students to take up arms against the EFCC.
Reacting, NANS, in a statement signed on Thursday by its President, Lucky Emonefe, condemned the move by “faceless groups to manipulate students for their purposes”.
“We strongly condemn the attempt to use students by these shadowy groups to intimidate the EFCC and distract it from its vital mission of ridding the country of corruption.
“Nigerian students and NANS stand in support of the EFCC and its mandate to combat economic and financial crimes.”
NANS expressed concern about reports of students being targeted and recruited to undermine the EFCC’s efforts, which are crucial for defending the country’s image, prestige, and economic well-being.
The body urged students to remain vigilant and not allow themselves be used as pawns by corrupt elements seeking to derail the progress being made by the EFCC.
