NANS condemn killing of Ogun student, calls for tight security within campuses
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC), has condemned the killing of a 400-level student of the Institution, Ayinla Fabiyi and called for strict security measures on campuses.
Fabiyi, a student of the History and Diplomatic Studies Department and a Senator at the Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED, was murdered on Wednesday by suspected cultists.
The deceased who was celebrating the ‘logging out’ in front of the lecture theatre was dragged towards the CENVOS building, attacked, beaten and macheted to death.
The student body in a statement signed by NANS Ogun JCC Chairman, Adeyanju Francis, described the killing within the school premises as a shock saying that “ a place of learning should be a haven, not a hunting ground.
He urged the school management to provide an immediate release of a detailed security plan to prevent future tragedies and provide counselling and support services to the students traumatized by this horrific event.
The statement reads “ This act of violence has left our union devastated. We mourn the loss of a promising young leader and student. A place of learning should be a haven, not a hunting ground.
“ We call on the following entities to take immediate and decisive action: Tai Solarin University of Education Management: Launch a thorough investigation into this incident and Implement comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of all students within the university premises.
“ Provide counselling and support services to the students traumatized by this horrific event. Sensitization programs should also be organized for students to be informed on vital security measures.
“ Lastly, the Nigerian Police has been up to the task in recent times and we ask for the assurance that the safety and security of all students within the university continue to be paramount”.
