Umahi Asks South-East To Support Tinubu, Warns Against Planned Protest

The Minister of Works David Umahi has called on the people of Ebonyi State and South-East in general not to participate in demonstrations against the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government.

He made the call during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting on the alignment for Ebonyi State 101.0km segment of the 477km Cross River – Ebonyi – Benue – Kogi – Nasarawa – Abuja Superhighway (the spur of Lagos – Calabar) held at Executive Council Chambers, New Government House in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

He assured that the Federal Government is doing everything possible to ameliorate the hardship being experienced, saying that the hardship will translate to a new birth of Nigeria.

“I want us to pray for Mr President and support him, as he is doing everything to unite Nigeria. He’s doing everything to put food on our tables, developing our roads, education, health amongst other things.”

“I want South-East people and Ebonyi state in particular to please, stand with President Bola Tinubu. No form of demonstration against Mr President in Ebonyi state and Southeast. We will not do that,” the minister told the gathering.

There are plans for protests nationwide on economic hardship against the Federal government. The people are demanding an end to bad government policies, over-taxing and electoral fraud.

On the road project, Umahi said it would serve as an agricultural and economic corridor, supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to achieve food sufficiency in the nation.

“The road is a spur of the coastal highway that runs from Lagos to Calabar and was designed by the colonial masters to integrate the South-East states,” the former governor of Ebonyi State said.

He called for support from all stakeholders to actualise the project, noting that President Bola Tinubu places great emphasis on the infrastructural revolution of the country.

“Nigeria is currently suffering from the effects of past neglects and this informed the bold, revolutionary decisions of the president.

“There is no part of the South-East zone that is not touched on road revolution: Umuahia-Aba-Port Harcourt road, Enugu—Abakaliki road, Onitsha-Owerri-Aba roads, among others,” he said.
