Tinubu postpones FEC meeting, hosts security chiefs Monday

This week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting has been postponed to a later date, which has not yet been announced.

Our correspondent, present at the Council Chamber at the originally scheduled time, noted that while some ministers were already in attendance, President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume were absent.

By 12:15 pm, ministers began packing up their documents and leaving the chamber. One minister, speaking anonymously , confirmed that the meeting scheduled for Monday had been rescheduled, though the new date has not yet been revealed.

The reason for the postponement was not provided by the minister. However, sources within the Presidency indicated that the notice about the rescheduling was issued late on Sunday night, leading to confusion as some ministers did not receive the update in time.

Despite the postponement of the FEC meeting, President Tinubu is set to meet with Service Chiefs at 2:00 pm to discuss the ongoing nationwide protests and other issues. The protests, which have been ongoing for five days under the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria banner, have seen continued demonstrations in major cities including Lagos, Abuja, and Kaduna.

President Tinubu had called for dialogue and an end to the protests, expressing a readiness to address the concerns raised by the demonstrators.
