CAN calls for women inclusion in decision-making for national development

THE Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has called for the inclusion of more women at decision-making levels in the country for national development.

The body made the call through the Chairman of CAN, South-West Zone, Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya at the 10th annual zonal convention of Women’s Wing, Christian Association of Nigeria, WOWICAN, southwest zone held at The Apostolic church, Nigeria,  LAWNA Territory,  Ketu, Lagos.

Bishop Tunde Akin-Akinsanya in his speech said WOWICAN theme: ” Repositioning Women for Growth & Development”, wouldn’t ’t have come at a better time, noting that without the participation of women in national development, Nigeria’s dreams of rising from socio-political and economic strangulation will be nothing but wishful thinking.

According to him, empowerment initiatives should be implemented to enable women to contribute to local, national and international development. The perception of women as dependents in economic,  social and moral matters urgently needs to be reviewed to ensure our women are active, agile and responsible in all aspects.

In his words: “The current status of women in our society and various social organisations is not ideal. In many societies, outdated perceptions about women’s role still prevail, whereas the dignity of women deserves due recognition and positive appraisal.

“Women represent a significant portion of the population, and their impact on growth and development,  from the family level to the global stage, is highly prominent.

“We must combat all forms of discrimination against women in every sector,  inclined faith-based organisations. Women should have access to quality education and should not be underrated in appointments to positions.

“I urge all Christian women not to relent in their fervent and constant prayers for the family, society, nation, world at large and the church. The challenges we face today call for immediate spiritual intervention.

“The country is experiencing severe hardship, with high living costs, unemployment,  and insecurity prevalent everywhere. I appeal to all our women of faith to keep praying for the government at all levels to act rightly and timely. “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We need divine intervention for economic,  social, and political repositioning.”

her welcome address, WOWICAN Chairperson, southwest zone, Senior Mother-in-Israel, InProphetess Odunola Raji-Adebesin charged Nigerian women, especially Christian women, to take their right position and rulership in the affairs of the country.

She said: “We must unleash our talents with positive force to benefit the body of Christ and the entire nation. This country is in chaos, the cost of living is skyrocketing, economic hardship is biting seriously, assistance from any angle is not coming, business is crunching, companies are folding up, indeed we are in a trying period.

“With focus, determination, self-discipline, steadfastness and, above all, persistence prayer to God, we will definitely reach the greater height prepared for us by God.”
