Presidential jet: Tinubu acting like Sani Abacha pro max – Activist lawyer
Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju on Wednesday accused President Bola Tinubu of acting like former Military Head of State, Sani Abacha pro max within one year of assuming power.
Adeyanju was reacting to the purchase of a new presidential jet, an Escalade bulletproof vehicle, and a yacht.
Posting on his Facebook page, Adeyanju wrote: “Critics don’t make good leaders. If in doubt, just look at Tinubu. The guy is acting like a Sani Abacha pro max just under one year. A hypocrite that can’t take what he gives.
“Just got back to Abuja from Lagos and saw Tinubu’s outrageously huge presidential jet.”
The new presidential jet procured by Tinubu’s administration is widely believed to be valued at about N150 million.
Confirming the purchase, Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said the new presidential jet was bought far below the market price.
Onanuga said the purchase had saved Nigeria huge maintenance and fuel costs, running into millions of dollars yearly.
Posting on X, the presidential aide said the jet was purchased following recommendation to replace the B737-700 (BBJ) after an investigative hearing by the National Assembly.
According to him, the legislative arm of the government had questioned the aircraft’s safety record and cost efficiency, especially after it malfunctioned during Tinubu’s trip to Saudi Arabia.
