First Bank to offer weekend service for collection of old naira notes

The First Bank of Nigeria has announced that all its branches nationwide will be open during the weekend to receive the old Naira notes.

There have been calls on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to extend the January 31 deadline set for the return of old Naira notes to the bank, due to the scarcity of the new notes printed by the apex bank.

But the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, insisted that the deadline would not be extended.

In a statement posted on its verified social media pages on Friday, the First Bank reminded its customers that all notes of the redesigned denominations will cease to exist by the end of this month.

“This is to notify the general public that all our branches will be open on Saturday and Sunday just to receive cash.

“All old Naira notes of series 200, 500, and 1000 will cease to be in use from the 31st of January,” the statement reads.
