Rights Group Urges Lagos Government to Obey Court Order, Investigate Pelumi Onifade’s Death

A rights group has called on the Lagos State Government to comply with a court order and thoroughly investigate the death of Pelumi Onifade, a reporter who died under controversial circumstances. Onifade was working as a journalist during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020 when he was reportedly detained by law enforcement officers. His body was later found at a morgue, sparking outrage and demands for justice.

The group emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for Onifade’s death. They urged the Lagos Government to take immediate action in line with the court’s directives, which include a comprehensive investigation into the events leading to the reporter’s demise. The group also called for those responsible to be held accountable, stressing that justice must be served to prevent future violations of human rights.
