Uganda Opposition Leader, Bobi Wine To Undergo Surgery After Shooting By Police
The legal team of Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has revealed that Wine is set undergo surgery after suffering a leg wound during a chaotic incident in which his party initially reported he was shot.
Wine, who is a popular critic of President Yoweri Museveni, visited in the town of Bulindo, around 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of the capital Kampala, when he was shot, according to his party, National Unity Platform (NUP).
Giving an update about his condition, his lawyer, George Musisi, told AFP that Wine “is out of danger, but according to the doctors, he will undergo a surgery to remove suspected fragments from a tear gas canister, which hit him.”
In confusing scenes in the immediate aftermath of Tuesday’s incident, the opposition leader, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, was rushed to Nsambya Hospital with images and video shared on social media showing the 42-year-old grimacing in pain.
Bobi Wine was on Tuesday shot in the leg by the police in Bulindo, Kira Municipality.
SaharaReporters learned that the politician was en route to visit one of his lawyers when the incident occurred.
The shooting took place as Wine returned from checking on Musisi George, a lawyer associated with his party.
According to the administrator of Bobi Wine’s Facebook page, the police and military, under the command of one Twesigye, surrounded Wine’s vehicles and began firing live bullets, teargas canisters, and other projectiles.
The attack resulted in Wine being hit in the leg. He has been rushed to a hospital and is receiving urgent medical attention from a team of doctors, the statement said.
It was another attempt on the life of their leader by the regime of President Yoweri Museveni, the post stated.
