“I Never Received A Dime From Maikyau,” Says Ex-NBA Assistant Gen. Sec. Daniel Kip, Threatens Legal Action Against City Lawyer
Daniel Kip, Esq., the former Assistant General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has issued a strongly worded letter to Emeka Emmanuel Nwadioke, the Chief Editor of City Lawyer Publishers Limited, demanding an immediate retraction and apology for a defamatory publication about him.
In the letter dated September 9, 2024, Kip expressed his dismay over a story published on the City Lawyer blog on September 6, 2024, titled “EXCLUSIVE: MAIKYAU PAYS EX NATIONAL OFFICERS N.44M, BISHOP SHUT OUT.” The story, which was widely circulated by Nwadioke on various social media platforms, including Facebook, Telegram, and WhatsApp, alleged that the outgoing NBA President, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, had paid ex-national officers, including Kip, a sum of N44 million before leaving office.
Kip vehemently denied receiving any money from Maikyau and criticized Nwadioke for publishing the story without conducting any form of investigation, confirmation, or verification. He described the publication as malicious, false, and aimed at gaining traction for the City Lawyer platform, disregarding the potential damage it could cause to his reputation.
The former NBA Assistant General Secretary emphasized his law-abiding nature and admirable character, stating that he had served the association creditably and selflessly. He expressed his distress over the viral publication, which had generated uproar on social media and subjected him to undeserved opprobrium.
Kip demanded an immediate written retraction of the publication, accompanied by an unequivocal apology to be circulated on all social media platforms and contacts that had received the defamatory story. He also requested a letter of apology addressed to him personally.
The letter concluded with a stern warning that failure to meet the demands within 24 hours of receipt would compel Kip to invoke all legal options at his disposal to seek redress for the injury and psychological trauma caused by the publication.
As of the time of reporting, it remains to be seen whether City Lawyer Publishers Limited will comply with the demands set forth by Daniel Kip, Esq., or face potential legal action for the alleged defamatory publication.
