Defence Chief sympathises with Borno residents as flood sacks over 200,000
The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen. Christopher Musa on Wednesday expressed sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Borno State over the devastating flood that has ravaged the state.
His reaction was contained in a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau in Abuja.
The CDS said he was saddened to learn of the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of about 200,000 citizens as a result of the flood from Alao Dam.
Musa conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and to the government and people of the state as they face this difficult time.
He assured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would work closely with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and other relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities.
The CDS directed the Theatre Commander Operation Hadin Kai to offer all necessary assistance to victims.
“The military stands in solidarity with the people of Borno and will ensure all affected communities are evacuated to safety and, in addition, will give support on the ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts,” he said
