‘No one is even trying to assassinate Biden, Harris’, Elon Musk wonders in now-deleted X post
Billionaire Elon Musk on Monday deleted a post wondering why no one has ever tried to assassinate President Joe Biden and his Vice-President Kamala Harris, despite two assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump
Following what the FBI described as Mr Trump’s second assassination attempt, Mr Musk, who has publicly touted his support for the former U.S. president, responded to a Twitter user who asked, “Why they want to kill Donald Trump?”
“And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala,” was Mr Musk’s reply to the Twitter user, which included a thinking-face emoji.
White House spokesperson Andrew Bates described the comment as “irresponsible.”
Mr Musk claimed the now-deleted controversial post was intended to be a joke.
“Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X,” Mr Musk wrote on Monday. “Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text,” he wrote in an adjoining post.
Still, the White House reproached the billionaire that attempted assassination was not a thing to be joked about.
“Violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about. This rhetoric is irresponsible,” the White House stated.
