Osun artisan bags six months jail term for stealing three tubers of yam

A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has sentenced an artisan, Sunday Ejoh to six months in correctional custody for stealing three tubers of yams.

Ejoh, who disclosed that he specializes in aluminum work, was docked on Monday on a count of stealing.

Police prosecutor, ASP Jacob Akitunde, informed the court that the convict committed the said offense on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Okinni in Egbedore local government area of Osun State.

He said the three tubers of yams valued N3,000 belonged to one Olawole Durojaye and the offense was contrary to section 390(9) of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Law of Osun State, Nigeria 2002.

The convict, who did not have a legal representative, pleaded guilty to the offense, saying, “I am hungry, and I have a family.”

Akintunde stated that police recovered a cutlass and slippers, among others, from him.

The presiding magistrate, M.A Olatunji sentenced him to six months imprisonment with an option of an N25,000 fine.
