Alex Otti, urges traditional rulers to preserve Igbo cultural heritage

Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, has emphasized the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people.

Speaking at the South East Traditional Rulers Council meeting held in Umuahia, Otti described culture as a defining identity for a people.

Otti condemned the infighting and power struggles within Igbo communities, citing the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, as a shining example of effective leadership.

“Power is transient,” he said, “and should be seen as an opportunity to demonstrate stewardship.” He encouraged the people to hold their leaders accountable, adding that “a good leader is a good listener.”

The Governor expressed gratitude to the South East Traditional Rulers Council for choosing Abia State as the meeting location. He assured the attendees of the state’s hospitality and reiterated his commitment to delivering services to the people without self-aggrandizement.

Eze E. C. Okeke, Chairman of the South East Traditional Rulers Council and Imo State Traditional Rulers Council, commended Otti’s efforts in transforming Abia State. Okeke praised the Governor’s achievements in promoting the state’s development and thanked him for maintaining peace and security.

Earlier, Eze Linus Mbah, Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, praised Otti for fostering a harmonious working relationship between the state government and traditional institutions. Mbah also called on the federal government to release Nnamdi Kanu, emphasizing that his release would restore peace to the South East region.
