64th Independence: Be courageous, hopeful, CAN tells Nigerians

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh has urged Nigerians to be courageous and hopeful, calling for unity and progress.

He made the call in a statement on Tuesday as the country celebrates its 64th independent anniversary.

He emphasised the importance of reflecting on the nation’s journey, celebrating achievements, and recommitting to the ideals of peace and harmony.

“Despite the challenges that have tested our resolve, we continue to demonstrate resilience and a shared commitment to the common good,” Okoh stated.

He urged citizens to “embrace peaceful coexistence and work collaboratively to build a future marked by mutual respect and understanding.”

Okoh acknowledged the progress made in combating terrorism and banditry but stressed the need for vigilance.

He stated, “We commend the efforts of our security forces in safeguarding our nation. However, we must remain vigilant and continue to support initiatives that promote safety and security for all Nigerians.

The Archbishop also addressed pressing issues such as education and employment, stating, “Social justice remains a cornerstone of our national aspirations.”

He underscored that “by prioritising education and creating employment opportunities, we empower our youth and lay the groundwork for a prosperous future.”

“As we celebrate our independence, let us reaffirm our commitment to mutual understanding and mutual respect,” he said, emphasising the importance of valuing religious diversity.

Okoh urged all Nigerians to be courageous and hopeful, stating, “Together, we can overcome the challenges before us and celebrate the richness of our diverse heritage.”

He expressed a vision for sustainable growth through focused national development, including infrastructure and youth empowerment.

“May God guide us towards lasting peace and prosperity,” he added.
