Rivers: Court stops Wike-backed APC from holding congress

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an ex parts order restraining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, from conducting any elective congresses for the Rivers State APC without including the claimants/applicants.

This restriction applies to local government and state executive committees or any congresses whatsoever, pending the determination of the substantive suit.

The presiding judge, Justice G.V. Obomanu, also issued an interim injunction, specifically barring the defendants from proceeding with the scheduled congresses on November 23 and 30, 2024, or any other date.

The injunction prevents any further steps towards the congresses or recognizing any winner purportedly elected in the ward congresses held on November 16, 2024, until the motion on notice is heard and determined.

The suit was filed by Okwu Joebrown-Ndike, Peace Oganu, and Samuel Uchegbule, who represent APC members aspiring for various positions in the congresses.

They alleged that despite paying for nomination forms, they were denied access to the forms, thus prompting the legal action.

Justice Obomanu adjourned the case to December 3, 2024, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
