ICPC tracks N21 billion constituency projects in Kaduna

The commission said the move was part of its effort to ensure accountability and transparency in the execution of public-funded projects.

Speaking to newsmen in Kaduna, Chief Superintendent of ICPC, Haruna Aminu, who represented the Constituency and Executive Tracking Department under the leadership of the ICPC chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, said the commission is tracking 60 projects across Kaduna State.

“We are here to track about 60 projects across Kaduna State with a total value of N21 billion. We started on Wednesday with the Kafanchan axis, where we tracked at least 21 projects. Now we are in Kaduna main town, Kabala area, focusing on projects such as solar-powered street lights across the town.

“Generally, on the solar project, we have seen a level of execution and then from the other angle, we were able to discover some hinges especially on the project. This is a project that touches people’s lives,” he said.

He also said the commission would see how it can push the contractor to complete the project, pointing out that there is no contractor that is going to be skipped because they cannot collect government money and go away without completing projects.

He also said the era of abandoned projects is over as they have been given all the directives and support to deal with all those who failed to live up to expectation.

Aminu revealed that delays in completing some projects, particularly the solar-powered streetlights, have hindered their intended impact on the community.

“These projects are vital to improving livelihoods in Kaduna State. If completed last year as planned, they would have made a significant difference by now,” he added.

He said the next phase of the exercise will involve clamping down on contractors who fail to execute their projects, ensuring that citizens receive the dividends of democracy.
