LASEPA shuts down nine establishments over environmental violations
In a decisive operation to tackle noise pollution and other environmental infractions, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed nine establishments across Lagos.
The affected areas include Mushin, Amuwo Odofin, and Okota Isolo, where businesses and religious organizations were found to have breached environmental regulations.
Among the establishments sealed are Daily Bakery, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Gak Universal Allied Limited, Ideal Standard, Franjane Royal Suites, Golden Haven Resort & Suites, Festival Hotel Conference Center & SPA, FS Service Centre, and Moulin Rouge Ventures at Olivia Mall.
These facilities were shut down for failing to comply with LASEPA’s environmental standards despite prior warnings.
Infractions ranged from noise pollution to the improper siting of hazardous facilities, posing risks to public health and community welfare.
Speaking on the operation, LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy for activities that harm the environment and public health.
“Environmental protection is a shared responsibility. As a government agency, we are committed to enforcing compliance with environmental laws to protect public health and community harmony. Noise pollution and other violations have severe impacts on quality of life, and we will not hesitate to act decisively against offenders.” Dr. Ajayi stated.
Dr. Ajayi emphasized the importance of sustainable practices and urged businesses and individuals to adhere to environmental regulations. He called on Lagos residents to assist in safeguarding the environment by reporting violations through LASEPA’s official channels.
This latest action underscores the agency’s determination to foster a healthier and more sustainable Lagos. Residents have praised the move as a step towards tackling the challenges of urban noise and environmental degradation.
