Shunning NELFUND not in your interest – MOUAU Vice Chancellor tells Southeast students
University students in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture and the Southeast at large have been advised to apply for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND.
The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, who gave the advice on Wednesday during a press conference in Umudike, said that the funds, if accessed, will alleviate the financial burden on parents.
The Vice-Chancellor regretted that students in the South East have not shown enough interest in the program, even when their counterparts from other zones of the country are keying into it.
According to Professor Iwe, MOUAU got a mark of N120,000 in 2023, which has now been increased to N150,000 in 2024.
“It is becoming embarrassing that students from other parts of the country are accessing the NELFUND money, but here, we are not showing interest,” Professor Iwe said.
He, therefore, encouraged students to utilize the opportunities to help their parents, as the current situation is becoming embarrassing.
