NDLEA Makes Major Christmas Eve Drug Bust in Lagos, Arrests Six Foreign Nationals
On Christmas Eve, operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made a significant drug seizure at Eleko Beach in the Lekki area of Lagos, intercepting two boats carrying 1,960 kilograms of “Ghanaian Loud,” a highly potent strain of cannabis. The operation, which took place at around 2:30 a.m., resulted in the arrest of six foreign nationals who had smuggled the drugs from Ghana.
The arrested suspects include two Ghanaians—Godsway John (38) and Freedom Kelvin (33)—and four Beninese nationals: Chegoun Hounsou (23), Gadabor Nyameto (47), Adantg Sasa (34), and Ayao Kayivi (21). They are now being questioned by the authorities about their involvement in the illegal drug trade.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja apprehended a 48-year-old businessman, Orizu Ifeanyi Arthur, who was attempting to board Air France Flight 844 to Paris with 74 wraps of heroin and cocaine that he had ingested. Orizu initially refused a body scan, claiming a medical condition, but after being detained for observation, he excreted the drugs over the following week. He later admitted that he had been promised 3,000 Euros for delivering the drugs to Paris.
The NDLEA’s efforts also led to two drug busts in Katsina over the Christmas weekend. On Christmas Day, Ibrahim Shaibu (35) was arrested at the Central Motor Park in Katsina with 35 kg of compressed cannabis in 40 parcels. Three days later, Umar Ahmed (47) was apprehended along the Zaria-Malumfashi Road with 13.5 kg of the same drug in 27 parcels.
These successful operations highlight the NDLEA’s ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting the public from the dangers of illicit substances.
