The Ogun State Police Command has made significant strides in curbing theft in the state, arresting two suspects and recovering stolen items in separate incidents.
On December 29, 2024, operatives from the Idanyin Division arrested Sadiq Adebayo, who was caught allegedly stealing burglary proof materials from an uncompleted building in the Imutu Ayanre community. Yekinni Wasiu, the chairman of the community, reported the theft to the police, leading to Adebayo’s apprehension. During interrogation, Adebayo confessed to stealing similar items on multiple occasions and selling them to a scrap dealer, Abdullahi Sulaimon.
Following the report, police investigators visited the crime scene, took photographs, and recovered some of the stolen burglary materials. Sulaimon, who is accused of receiving the stolen goods, was also arrested and is currently under investigation.
In a related incident the same day, another suspect, Adekoya Odunowo, was apprehended after Seun, a concerned resident, alerted the authorities to a sack containing stolen electric wires. Investigations revealed that Odunowo had stolen six weight moulders used in block moulding from several block industries along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye expressway. The stolen items, each valued at N150,000, were sold to a scrap dealer, Rabiu Ismaila, in Idode, Ago-Iwoye.
Both Odunowo and Ismaila were arrested, and the stolen weight moulders have since been recovered. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the suspects would be charged in court after the investigations are completed.
These recent arrests highlight the Ogun State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to combat theft and safeguard properties in the state.
