Udeh-Okoye Takes Office as PDP National Secretary After Court Ruling
Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, the newly appointed National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially resumed his duties at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on December 30, 2024. Udeh-Okoye, who had previously served as the PDP National Youth Leader, took over the role after the Court of Appeal affirmed his appointment, replacing Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Speaking at the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat, Udeh-Okoye clarified that his resumption was in full compliance with the Court’s judgment, which had already been officially recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The PDP had formally accepted the court’s ruling last Tuesday, with party spokesman Debo Ologunagba confirming that Udeh-Okoye’s appointment had been validated and that the party would respect the Court of Appeal’s order.
Despite Senator Anyanwu filing an appeal at the Supreme Court, sources indicate that he has not yet secured an order to stay the execution of the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
During his press interaction, Udeh-Okoye reiterated his commitment to ensuring the smooth running of the party’s headquarters, even as most staff remain on holiday until January 13. He expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership, including the Governors’ Forum, former ministers, the Board of Trustees, and leaders from his region for their steadfast support.
Udeh-Okoye also acknowledged the challenges faced throughout the process but assured that with the court’s decision on December 20, 2024, now finalized, he is fully prepared to carry out his responsibilities as the PDP National Secretary.
