Tinubu Pledges to Lead Nigeria to Prosperity, Rejects Efforts to Enslave the Nation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to resist any forces determined to enslave Nigeria and its people. Speaking during a New Year homage by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, and former principal officers of the National Assembly at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, Tinubu emphasized that his administration would continue its transformative journey to lead Nigeria to greater prosperity.

“It is for us to build a nation. We have confidence and competence. The enslavers want us to be an enslaved people, but we say no,” Tinubu declared, referring to the challenges facing the nation. He expressed his determination to guide Nigeria to the Promised Land, highlighting that his government is focused on serving the needs of all Nigerians, especially future generations.

The President appreciated the unwavering support of the National Assembly over the past 19 months, pledging to work even harder, make courageous decisions, and embrace intellectual curiosity to drive national development. Tinubu also stressed the importance of collaboration and the role of lawmakers in realizing the country’s potential, noting that their efforts would yield positive results for generations to come.

“We are determined, we are capable, and we are resolute, and we will be there. We will take Nigeria to that Promised Land with you,” the President added. He also acknowledged that the journey undertaken by his administration is aimed at securing a brighter future for all Nigerians.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who also spoke during the meeting, shared optimism about the country’s economic recovery. Shettima noted that the close relationship between the executive and the legislature has contributed significantly to the recovery of the economy. He expressed confidence that, despite the global challenges posed by factors like the Russia-Ukraine war, Nigeria’s economy is on a path to sustained growth.

“The economy has started picking up, and in the coming weeks and months, Nigerians will start smiling for the better,” Shettima stated, adding that the administration is committed to addressing national challenges with robust solutions in collaboration with the National Assembly.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended President Tinubu for his courage in implementing reforms, ensuring that the National Assembly remains united and firmly behind the administration. He praised Tinubu for spurring investor confidence and improving Nigeria’s business climate.

“On this journey of restoration, transformation, and rebuilding the nation, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you and will stand by you,” Akpabio assured the President.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, also lauded the President for his respectful engagement with the National Assembly. He noted that many prominent figures in the current administration, including the President and Vice President, were former members of the National Assembly, which had led to a stronger relationship between the executive and legislative branches.

Abbas expressed gratitude for the President’s support and commitment, noting the improvements in Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape, including increased food availability and prosperity toward the end of 2023. He said, “We believe 2025 will be the ultimate year where every Nigerian will be proud of this administration.”

The New Year visit was attended by key figures including Vice President Shettima, Senate President Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, among others. The gathering reinforced the unity between the executive and legislative branches as they work together for the nation’s progress.
