The kidnapped senior Anglican cleric, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, has been released, alongside his driver.
The retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi confirmed his freedom in a post on his Facebook page early Thursday morning, simply writing: “Praise the Lord!”
His release comes one month after he was abducted while traveling to Umuchu, a community in Anambra State, for a burial ceremony. The news of his freedom has been met with an outpouring of gratitude and celebration on various social media platforms, particularly within the Anglican Communion, including the official Facebook page of St. Stephens Anglican Church, Nnewi.
While details surrounding his release remain unclear at the time of reporting, the relief and joy among his supporters are palpable.
