Soludo Offers N10 Million Bounty for Capture of Gunmen Behind Umuike Massacre
In a dramatic turn of events, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has announced a reward of N10 million for any information leading to the capture of the gunmen responsible for the deadly attack in Umuike, located in Ubahuekwem, Ihiala Local Government Area. This tragic incident, which unfolded on Monday, claimed the lives of seven individuals, including five police officers and two civilians.
The attack occurred just as family members of the deceased were preparing for a burial ceremony scheduled for January 2. Without warning, a group of armed assailants stormed the gathering, opening fire indiscriminately. The gunmen targeted security officers stationed near the local government headquarters as they made their escape, leaving a trail of death and destruction in their wake.
Governor Soludo, deeply shaken by the violence, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Bridget Akanma Onuchukwu, one of the victims. During his visit, he expressed heartfelt sympathy to the grieving families and assured the community that those responsible would not escape justice.
In a statement released by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the Governor reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the killers are brought to justice. “We will not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime are apprehended,” Soludo vowed. “Anyone who provides information that leads to their arrest will be greatly appreciated.”
Soludo also revealed that security discussions for Ihiala are underway and a comprehensive security plan will be unveiled soon to ensure such tragedies do not repeat. As investigations continue, the search for the gunmen is ongoing, with authorities determined to track down those behind the senseless attack.
